The Size of a Mustard Seed

23 Aug

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you
have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move
from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Have you ever SEEN a mustard seed?!?!  Its tiny.  Smaller than tiny.  Itsy bitsy, teeny weeny. BUT, Jesus says that’s enough faith to move mountains.  When I read this I thought, “who has faith that small, that isn’t faith at all!”  But to be honest, I have days where my faith IS that small.  Every day that starts out angry, depressed, disappointed, or hurt.  Those are the days where my faith takes the very back seat of the bus, and sits there, smaller than the size of a mustard seed.  I lose my trust in God, and wonder where he is on those days. Besides the fact that he is putting things in my path to make me stronger, I lose my faith a little bit on those days.  Jesus tells us that faith the size of a mustard seed can STILL move mountains.  Even a small amount of faith is faith.

How big is your faith today? At least golf ball size, I would hope!

Good for your soul

22 Aug

Sometimes I find myself in need of a pick-me-up.  Whether it be because of a rainy day, or someone hurting my feelings, I just need something to lift my spirit.  Lately these are the things that lift me up a little bit, and make me feel the light that is in this world.  It doesn’t take much!

READ

Heaven is for real– This book is a New York Times Best Seller, but the reason I wanted to read it is because of my Gram.  She called me up on the phone (which she never does) just to tell me about this book.  “oh Miss Kate, it was so wonderful to read about this little boy who saw heaven, just marvelous, you have to read it, just go to your Walmarts (yup, she puts an S at the end…I dont know why) I’ll send you a few dollars so you can get it next time you go to get me a thank you card, to thank me for being wonderful.”  I so I did just that.  This small book took no less than a few hours to read, and it was SO worth it!!!  The true story tells about Colton, a four-year old boy who went in for an emergency surgery, and survived.  A while after his experience, he started talking to his parents about God, Jesus, and his trip to heaven.  He told his parents about how he met Jesus, and OH how much he loves us.  It would be one thing if this little boy had been to church every sunday and heard about the details of Christ at Sunday school, but he hadn’t!!!!  He shared impossible details about his miscarried sister that he met, that no one had told him about.  What brought tears to my eyes was his insistence that every painted depiction fo christ was wrong.  “his beard isn’t right” “his nose doesn’t look right”  “that’s not what his sash looks like!” Until his parents showed him a picture they found on the internet.  A picture painted by a 7-year-old girl, who also claims to have seen Jesus.  THAT picture was perfect, he said.  This book will touch your soul.

WATCH

I read the book first, but watching the film was JUST as great!!  The Help  is a story about a sassy women that wants to be a journalist, and seeks to write a story from the point of view of the women that care after white families.  These black women refuse to help, for fear that they will be caught. When things start to happen in the town, the decide, one by one, that they want to see things change.  This movie had me in tears from laughing.  It was such a moving story, from several different points of view.  It was a wonderful experience to see this movie in the theatre, full of women from different backgrounds.

“whose art’s in heaven”

17 Aug

His art is in everything you see, and everything you don't see.

I read the funniest story of a little boy who was saying his daily prayer at dinner with his family.  When the prayer was over, he asked his mom, “why do I have to say ‘whose art’s in heaven’, when CLEARLY, Gods art is down here?!”  His mother had to explain to him that “who art in heaven” refers to where God is, not where…his art is.  But good point, Kiddo!

Gods art is down here indeed, everywhere we go.

His art is in the darkness

His art is in the light.

His art is in birth.

His art is in a family vacation at the beach.

His art is in a childs curiousity.

His art is in everything.  For we are fearfully and wonderfully made. (psalms 139).

Heavenly Father

16 Aug

When I was little, I heard Heavenly Father in church, at the dinner table, and from my Gram.  I never really thought about it.  In fact, I thought it was all one word… hev-en-leaf-farther.  Just this morning I started to think about it.  My Father in Heaven.  “Big daddy”. This made me think.

God is our parent.  Just like a mother or a father down here.  He just happens to see more from his vantage point!!  I am proud of my son when he takes a quarter and puts it in the Childrens Foundation bucket, instead of going to the gumball machine.  God is proud of us when we do something good.

I am so disappointed in Jake when he does something naughty, even when I JUST TOLD HIM not to do it.  God is disappointed in us when we do something wrong when we KNOW what is right.

And no matter what Jake does, I will always love him.  Nothing he can do will make me love him any less.  I don’t care what he looks like, how tall he gets, or what he does when he grows up.  I’m always going to love him.  God is always going to love us ,no matter what we do.  Nothing can hinder or take away that love.

So treat God like a parent.  Make him proud! Understand that nothing you can do will make him love you any less, because he made you the way you are.  We are greatly loved.

Trust

15 Aug

The bible mentions faith 365 times in the King James Version.   Must be important, don’t you think?!  Its used in several different ways, but the most common is faith through trust. When you hop in a cab, you have faith in the driver that you will not be hurt by his driving skills…or lack thereof. When you order something online, you have faith that the store will ship your order to you without damage.  When you marry someone, you have faith that they will be kind to you, and take care of you.  You have faith already!!!!  Now we just have to learn to turn that faith upwards.  Do you have faith that God is watching over you? Do you have faith that he will not put anything in your path that you can’t handle?

That is the reality of faith.  You already put your faith and trust in things on the earth.  Now you have to work on unwavering faith.  A faith that directs its energy to things in heaven.

Where do you put the majority of your faith?

Angels

12 Aug
The first definition in Websters Dictionary for Angels is this:
a spiritual being superior to humans in power and intelligence.
I however, believe that this may be more appropriate:
an attendant, spirit, or guardian.
There is a lot of speculation about angels and where they are are.  Some say there is an angel assigned to each person to watch over them and take care of them on a daily basis.  Others say they are beings that were created in heaven to stay in heaven.  I say this: Angels are where God tells them to be.
There is also a bit of thought that goes into what they look like. Some say they are gorgeous creatures, with wings and white robes.  Others believe they look just like us, and walk among the earth like mortals.  I say this: They can be either.  They are the messengers of GOD.  Why wouldn’t they be able to be both?

I read a truly inspiring book, called Where Angels Walk by Joan Wester Anderson.  It is a compilation of stories, where people have felt heavenly visitors, and influence from angelic creatures.  It really moved me to believe in everything.  No matter where we are, or what we are going through, there is someone there with us, helping us through, and whispering the answer in our ears.  Sometimes we hear it, sometimes we don’t.  I think the key is to listen.  My Mom always told me when I was little, “when you were a baby, you smiled so much, I just knew God told you a wonderful secret, and angels were whispering in your ear.”
Lets listen quietly, because they have been wanting to tell us things for quite some time!
