50 Things: Friends

4 Oct

There are so many quotes about friendship that we hear everyday, that hold true, but get lost through the cracks of cliché’s.

“Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold.”

“A friend is someone who knows all about you, and loves you anyways!”

What constitutes someone being a friend though?  Someone that helps you out when you need them?  Someone that knows everything about you?  Someone that has known you for a very long time?  Must all of this criteria be met, before you think “Wow, she is such a wonderful friend!”

I used to look at my friends, from all walks of life, and think about what they could bring to my life.  Though everyone has made me grow in one way or another, that is such a selfish way to look at things!!!  We should be looking at ourselves, and wondering how we can enrich the lives of others.

Follow through with a favor someone asks of you.  Ask someone how they are doing, and listen intently to their answer.  Give someone a hug, because it looks like they could use one.  Tell a dear friend that they look spectacular today.  Tell someone that they have made a huge difference in your life, and you don’t know who you would be without them.

The little things that you do in someone elses life are what make up the big picture.  Would’nt you want to be one of the bright colorful threads in their life’s mural?
